the makings: jessica pisano (eldest of four, and born within a family of artists: sculptors, photographers, graphic designers, film directors/producers, musicians, and illustrators….all remaining family members are self proclaimed “artists of life.” so, inherently (and because my dad told me at the age of 3), i had no choice but to become and artist. and i’m glad i did.
the formal makings:
- BFA in Painting and Photography, Lewis & Clark College – Portland, OR (1995-1999)
- Fine Art study abroad program, Lorenzo deMedici School – Florence, Italy (1997)
- Graphic Design continuing education, Rhode Island School of Design – Providence, RI (2000)
- MA in Art Administration, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago – Chicago, IL (2000-2002)
things that make me, me: sunny days at the beach (any kind of day at the beach actually). good food, good wine, good conversation (all together: even better!). woken up by hearing ‘good morning’ from my husband mike (another artist/photographer…see artists artists everywhere!). walks with my border collie kona (not an artist, but i swear she’s human). catching up with my beautiful sisters – it’s better than any amount of caffeine (they have enough energy to sustain our country alone). gallery walks, museum visits and discovering cool new art spots. traveling: taking trips – east coast, west coast, any coast…water keeps me calm and inspired.
my work: i started out painting first and then in college i fell into photography. soon after learning the ins and outs of black and white photography, i began combining it with painting. the outcome was something that really worked for me and my style as an artist.
each piece that i create is an original work of art. using my black and white photograph as my canvas, i paint the surface with a variety of media including, acrylics, oil pastels and gold leaf. my work is mounted on either birch wood panels, antique tin ceiling panels, or traditionally framed behind UV protective glass. check out my website for examples – the majority of the work shown on my website is no longer available, however, i gladly welcome commissions. So if you see something on my site that you like…let me know!
“If you look closely, there’s a dance in every tree — countless gestures and poses within nature’s landscape, inspiring me to capture and paint.” ~ jessica pisano.
